This week was filled with many miracles. Elder Maloy and I have been praying fervently for the people in this area and we have seen the Lord answer our prayers and lead us to his children who are prepared to hear this message. We have been teaching Florence the last couple of weeks. I wrote a little about her last week. She is a little old lady in her 80's with the warmest smile you have ever seen. She just radiates. She has been reading the Book of Mormon almost everyday and she talks about how much she is loving it. She has told us she received an answer to her prayers that it is true. She kept telling us every time we met with her that she feels like God has sent us to her for a reason, she said she doesn't know why but she feels like she just needs to keep meeting with us. We love her so much and we know she is beginning to feel the Holy Ghost testify to her the truth of the message we share with her. She has come the last couple of weeks to church but has only stayed for the first hour because she goes to her church immediately afterwards. The only thing really keeping her from becoming fully committed and being baptized is the fact that she feels comfortable at her other church and she doesn't know if she is ready for a change. Every time she comes to church with us she gets the warmest welcome and the people here just love her. She is truly a special women. After sacrament meeting today she talked about how much she loved it, and how next Sunday she wants to stay for all three hours. We are so excited for her. She was also able to come to a baptism last Saturday for one of the new converts in another ward in our stake, and she loved that as well. She is almost there and we are so excited as she is taking these steps towards her Heavenly Father and entering on that straight and narrow path to eternal life.
Emily and Charles also had a wonderful week. They recently got back from a family vacation to Lake Tahoe. They talked about how beautiful it is and I am excited to go someday after my mission. Yesterday they were able to meet with bishop during church to discuss their marriage and what steps they needed to take. They are really starting to move toward it and we are excited for them. Them not being married right now is the only thing keeping them from being baptized, since they have a kid together. They both want to get baptized and when they were meeting with bishop he told them he could do it for free and the ward could help out to set up and organize a wedding for them at the church. They even asked bishop after the meeting when the could schedule the building to do it. They are already looking forward to it. They are going to meet with him again this Wednesday to go over some more stuff and we are so excited for them!! They are really progressing and doing all they can to be baptized.
Another person we were able to find this week was Deborah Davis. Last Sunday there was a visitor in our ward and when we talked to him we found out he was a return missionary that had served in the Del Campo ward about 3 years ago. As we were talking to him we asked him if there was anyone he remembers that he used to teach that we could go back and check up on again. He told us to go see Deborah. She was almost baptized when he was here but due to some legal issues she was unable to. So we went by her apartment last Saturday and she was so happy to see us. She told us how much she loved meeting with the missionaries in the past. She explained that she finally took care of any legal issues and there was nothing holding her back, and she still had a desire to be baptized. This was such a miracle to find her. The Lord knows his children and he knows when they are ready to receive his word. It was no coincidence the return missionary visited us and happened to bring up Deborah. The Lord has a plan. It was so special to witness his hand in leading us to her. We are so excited to help her on that path back to her father in heaven.
I am so grateful to be a member of this great church. I am grateful to have been able to witness these miracles this week as the great Shepard finds his sheep and brings them unto him. I testify that we are all His sheep and that He knows us personally. He loves us perfectly. As missionaries he uses us to help him find his lost sheep and bring them back. I am so grateful to be apart of this great work.
I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon, and the eternal truths it contains. As talked about in the introduction "It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come." What more could one ask for in this life? To know how to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come is the greatest knowledge one could posses. These answers are located all in one book, all we have to do is study it and pray about it. Our Father in Heaven has not abandoned us here on the earth to find things out for ourselves. He has provided a plan for us, a path for us to follow in this life. He has established his gospel, and has given us a prophet on the earth to lead us in these hard times that the earth is seeing right now. I love the Lord, I love his gospel and his great plan of happiness. I know it's true.
Love, Elder Hallmark
